Mr. Bijoy's 2018 Gift Guide Pt. 2 (for the lady in your life)

Since it went over rather well last year, I've compiled a little gift guide for the guys shopping for that special lady. So here are a few nifty things that the lady in your life may appreciate. I don't claim that any of these are really great gifts for the woman for whom you're shopping, but they're nifty.

Ok, so:

  • Oh, she's a badass? I got you.
  • I'm not one to tell you to buy your lady lingerie. But pajamas, pajamas are great. 
  • Coziness is everything. This classic throw comes in 11 colors and comes with the promise of warmth and style. 
  • An inexpensive watch that makes a bold fashion statement is a risky gift, but you'll know if you can get away with this. 
  • Speaking of coziness, how about a nice robe to curl up in on a Saturday morning? 
  • Another robe, but one that's a little more snuggly.  
  • A necklace that will help her look more like a million bucks and it will cost you so much less.
  • She likes Harry Potter? If she doesn't have these and you get them, you'll win Christmas. 
  • If she appreciates fashion and utility, and also works with her hands, check this thing out. 
  • The most expensive fucking candle that she may or may not appreciate (read: if she's a little bougie and you know it, raise your hand... with this candle in it).
  • A wine club that doesn't suck for the wine drinker that doesn't suck.

You should probably know, I smoke cigars and tell people what I like and don't like. This is my opinion. Take it as such, I don't pontificate as an expert, just as an enthusiast. To begin I should explain the lack of picture for this cigar. I forgot. I'll tell you what it looks like though! The band is at the foot, black with “5150” embossed in an old gold Gothic typeface. It's simple, and that's why I like it. On to the cigar. The Esteban Carreras 5150 is a Corojo wrapped in Ecuadorian grown Sumatra, with Nicaraguan fillers and binder. The overall construction is just a hair from amazing. A few spots along the cigar looked as if the wrapper wasn't just right. Appearance-wise, it was beautiful. A slight mottled color with a wrapper devoid of veins or bulges made the 5150 something that really looked, well, real. Ham & Swiss Quiche, for happiness

An omelet has eggs folded over stuff. A frittata has stuff folded into the eggs. A quiche is basically a frittata with a pie crust. So, I mean, you should make a quiche.     What ya need:  1/2 cup of finely chopped yellow onion 1 egg 2 egg whites 1/2 cup  of fat-free sour cream 6 ounces of diced lean ham 6 ounces of shredded low-fat Swiss cheese 1 ready-made 9-inch pie crust Ok, so: Set your oven rack to 1/3 off the bottom. Preheat your oven to 350ºF. In a microwave safe bowl, microwave the onions for 1 minute on high. Discard any fluids that may have come out of the onions and set the onions aside. Grease a pie pan with cooking spray and fit the pie crust to it. In a large bowl, beat the egg, egg whites, and sour cream together. Now stir in the onions ham and cheese. Pour the egg mixture in to the pie crust and place it in the oven. Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the eggs are firm and the top of the quiche has lightly browned. Serve while hot!

Châteaubriand, for happiness and smiles.

A friend asked for this recipe, so I thought I'd go ahead and share it with all of you! Enjoy! What ya need: 2 tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil 1, 10-ounce, aged center-cut beef tenderloin 1 large shallot, peeled and chopped 1/2 cup of red wine, nothing too sweet 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter, chilled Kosher salt, to taste Ground black pepper, to taste Ok, so: Preheat your oven to 450ºF. In a heavy, oven-safe pan, heat your olive oil over high-heat until it almost reaches the smoking point. You don't want the oil to smoke, but you want it very hot. As it heats, season your beef with salt and pepper. Once the pan is hot, brown each side of the beef in the pan. Transfer the pan to your oven and roast for 10-15 minutes. You can check the internal temp to get an accurate cooking temp, 130ºF for rare (and delicious). Transfer your meat to a cutting board or plate and make a tent out of foil for it.
